Recce report…

March 7th, 2010 by laurastrickland

These shots were taken in one of the fields next to Hannahs house, we decided to film here as we felt it had very open space, just like many horrror/thriller films. it was the perfect place to set a horror/thriller film aswel due to the trees as in many of the horror/thriller films we had watched had somebody running threw trees or something like that.

Animatic Storyboard…

This is our Animatic Storyboard. the shots are to do with our horror/thriller film.

These shots are the main shots we plan to use however we will add more shots when filming probably and we will use these shots more than once (just like the horror/thriller films we watched did).

what film we chosed to do…

March 6th, 2010 by laurastrickland

After watching these films we all decided to do a horror/thriller film. The reasons we had for doing a horror film are:

  • We had the perfect place to film, (hannahs house). The house has very open land, surrrounded with tree’s and fields, so this made it the perfect place to set a horror/thriller as in the horror films that we watched the main story took place in this sort of scene.
  • The next reason for chosing a horror/thriller film was because we all really liked horror/thriller films, we felt that they were exciting, attention grabbbing and made you sit at the edge of your seat, so we decided that this is what we wanted people to do when they watch our film (even know it is only the opening two minutes, so this would be quite hard to do).
  • The next reason for chosing a horror/thriller is because we thought it would be quite an easy film to make as many of the shots are just repeated for example the film, The Fog in the opening section  used the same shot of the fog on the beach quite a few times. so we thought that we could do this,

So this is the reasons to why we chose to do a horror/thriller film, hopefully we will succeed in making it good and not to cheesy like some hottor/thriller films.

Harry Potter 5

March 6th, 2010 by laurastrickland

The titles that start this film is “Warner Bros Pictures” Then the title comes up “Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix”. The theme music then starts which is on all the Harry potter films. The establishing shot is up in the sky and looks down and zooms down into the park where the setting is set. We see grass swaying in the wind this gives an eary effect. We then see a shadow this makes the audience feel abit uncomfortable and on edge the tension builds. Then we see the main character Harry Potter. We then have a wide shot of the round about moving on its own this is creepy as we think something scary is going to happen. We then see a wide shot of 5 boys been horrid and there is a zoom in on Harrys emotions. The sky then goes black we deffinatly know something bad is going to happen now as the atmosphere suddenly changes. Harry threatens the boy. Scary music is played. This creates dramatic tension. There is the a shot looking down on the two boys then a weather shot. This is the end of the starting scene.

Love actually

March 6th, 2010 by laurastrickland

The titles that come up first is “Universal Pictures and Studio Canal present” “A working title production” “In assocciation with DNA films” This starts of with happy music the happy music tells the audience that it is going to be a happy film and it also shows people hugging this shows the plot “LOVE”  and it also tells us it is not going to be a horror. The quote that is in this when this happy scene has finished is “Love Actualy is all around” Then the film title is shown- “LOVE ACTUALY”.

The first scene opens and starts with a man singing a song about love “All you need is love” Then a wide shot. Then the actors in the movies names are shown while this scene is in motion. This doesn’t happen on all films as I found out watching “The ring” The camera moves all around the singer it pans. There are not many camera movements in this.

This is a Romantic Comedy.

The Ring

March 6th, 2010 by laurastrickland

This starts with the title “Dreamworks” which is of a little boy fishing on the moon. Like all films it starts with an esablishing shot which is of an old spooky house in the night so it is quite dark from this start we know it is going to be a horror as the setting is spooky! The rain also set the horror scene, the sound of it makes the tension rise. There was then a wide shot of two girls sat talking but sat in the dark watching TV this also gives us a clue that it may be scary as they are talking about what happened to a gril when she watched a video (she died). It zooms in this creates tension. They have a conversation about the plot of the film this gives us an idea of what it is going to be about. It sets the scene/plot. It zooms on speech to the girls. All through the scene we hear rain this makes it more scary as if it was sunny and daylight you wouldn’t be too scared. It creates an atmosphere of horror. The phone then rings. There is silence- this makes the audience on edge they don’t know whats going to happen next they think of things that may happen if they answer the phone. There is a close up on the girls scared face. The TV suddenly comes on with no warning- silence again- the tension rises much more. There is a zoom in of the TV. Then the secen jumps to the next scene.

In this film, there are two opening sequences, this is purely because of the way the storyline of the film is laid out. The first sequence has no opening titles, however, after the sequence there are the opening titles with a red background and black hair revealing the names and titles.

The first sequence is a Wide Point of View shot, showing a male looking out into the city. It then cuts to a Medium shot of his face and a girl laid in a bed behind him. We then see a close up of the side of his head, to show the confusion in the character and then goes to an MS of the female in the bed, the dialogue has begun. Then a Wide shot is used to show the man jumping off the blacony, this then cuts to a POV shot of him falling to the ground, the speed of this shot is very quick. The shot from which he has just fallen is then shown again, however, the girl walks into the shot, shock and confused, this is then reverted to a POV shot of his mangled body on the road below. A crane shot is then used to show the distance he fell, the music now starts ans this then fades to a blackout.

This film starts off with a Point of View shot from the main character (Kady). This shot shows both parents, it then reverst to a Close up and POV shot of the mother and then back to the starting shot. This shot then tilts slightly - to simulate the character of Kady standing up. There is then an Over the SHoulder shot of Kady. There is then a mid shot of the mother and Kady, to another mid shot of the father taking a photo graph and then back to the original mid shot of Kady and her mother - which pauses as though taking the photograph, narration/ self monologue of the charcter Kady. It then reverst to a wide shot of all three characters and the surrounding house and background. Again, there is a MS of Kady and her mother and another non diagetic sound as a camera take a picture, whilst the shot freezes.

Indiana Jones-The Last Crusade

January 27th, 2010 by laurastrickland

This film starts with the paramount pictures logo which is a mountain with little stars in a circle with paramount pictures in the middle. it then says paramount pictures presents a lucasfilm  LTD production-a steven spielberg film. The film right from the begginning had music which is the main theme from all the indiana jones films. The tune is repeated quite alot through the film which then becomes a motif through out the film(s).

The film starts with a panning camera down the screen from the top of the screen moving to the bottom of the ground focusing on the boys (scouts) on the horses riding along there is a full shot of the boys on the horses so you can get the surroundings of the mountains etc. then it focus’s on the two boys climbing the cliff. There is then an over the shoulder shot which then moves to a point of view shot so we a the audience can see what the to boy are looking at. There is a close up of the boys face (young indiana jones) so you can see his facial expressions. there is then a two shot of the boys talking so you can see both there facial expressions and what there both thinking. there is a hand held camera used so you can see that there is panick and stress when young indiana jones is getting chased. there is a tracking shot of the boy on the horse and this follows him the whole way round on the chase. whilst this is happening there is up beat music playing which matchs the actions as there all sudden and upbeat. A dolly has been used when they are following the train and actors ll jump on to train and climb along the top and the side of the train.

There is a montage shot of the mountains in the opening section. this shows the different images of the mountains/cliffs and the scale of them, there is also a montage of the boys on the horses. When the music is playing it is turned down so you can hear the dialogue over the top of the music however the music is still dominating the scene. there has been a cutaway from the boy running from the train to the house. At the very end of the sequence there is a cut where the man puts the hat on young indiana jones head then he looks down and when he looks back up it is now grown up indiana jones (Harrison Ford). This has just been a flash back of indiana jones remembering something which he had been told that day and was now using it against them when he’s older.  The scenery round him has also changed as when he looked down he was in a house then when he looked up he’s now on a ship. there is also a change in the weather as when hes younger its very sunny it almost looks like they live in a desert and when he’s older its raining very heavily.

i think this is one of the best opening of a film i have seen as it keeps your interest as you want to find out what happens and it is very cleverly done with all the cuts and edits especially the one at the end with the hat as you dont expect it.
