Evaluation Activity 4

March 17th, 2010 by jonathanmetcalfe

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience of our film opening will be aimed at people who are into survival/horror genres. This is because our film is based around the horror genre. Our ideal audience would be people who are between 18 to 25 people because the actor in our film opening are youngish but the horror scene is usaul restricted to people above a certain age range 15+ or 18+ this is because the film is deemed unsuitable for them.

The taste of our audience would be generally broad because it isnt a minority group. This means were they would shop or what music they listen to could have a very wide range but if i was too narrow it down I would recommend it to people who are enthusiastic about the horror genre. They’re favourite Tv show would be something such as ‘CSI’ or ‘Spooks’ were the heroes of the Tv show have to uncover the murderer or plot.

Analysis of film opening

March 8th, 2010 by jonathanmetcalfe

28 Days Later

The film opens with a research lab being raided by some people. They let a chimp out and it bites one of the activists. This opening sets the mood for the entire film because it shows how the infection started. It sets the genre for a horror by uses a lot of blood and core, also it is a poorly light room.  The scene of the infected chimps are blurry and smudged so you cant really see whats going on and it demostrate the violence. 28 Days Later ulitize the horror genre by using darkest in the shot and short cuts.

Dog Soldiers

The opening of Dog Soldier show a couple in a wood togethers. The women gives the man a silver dagger, shortly after the women is dragged out of the tent and it closes with a shot of the mans face. This sets the mood of the film by showing a terrifying scene before it starts. It also is shot when it is dark so more horrifying to the viewer. The intro to this film links to the end which gives the viewer a sense of completion because it has come a full circle. The mystery is kept until the main plot begins by not showing the creatures that dragged the women away. It is again kept in the genre of horror because of the use of blood. The title of the film comes on after this sequence, it is a loud clanging sound. This is a contrast from the clip because it was very quiet and mostly uses only dialogue and ambient noise.

Iron Man

The film opening with a suited man travelling in a humvee with soldiers. Suddenly the car infront explodes and the soldiers leave the suited man in the humvee. He stumbles out and passes out after being shot. This depicts the action genre because there is a lot of explosions and action. This start of this film has a lot of action in it to alure the audience into watching it. The audience are watching this film to see action pack sequences like the intro.

Company Ident

We made it off photoshop and created it in layers. We chose our ident because it suited the genre of film,  that is why we used the red and black colour, this demostrates the horror and mystery in the film. We added the blood effect for emphasis on the horror genre.

Opening film analysis

January 27th, 2010 by jonathanmetcalfe

In a opening of film the usaul order is that the intro is companied by the titles either with the titles over lapping it or after the intro. Sometimes the film starts off with a colour background with only the credits of the film then it starts. The opening of a film is usually a prediction of how the film will do and the pace of the film. The opening can be a sequence or a montage of the film, usauls a Horror/Thriller/Action use montage because it is fast paced, where as a comedy will try and make the frist scene as funny or entertaining as possible. When the titles come on there are usaully different company identity near it who are associated with the making of the film. The details are writing in small print below the title. Expersition its the order of things, whilst the main plot is going on the side plot is running along side it. The opening titles of a film usaully reflect how the rest of the film will be, they do this to show the pace and genre of the entire film. Sometimes the opening is a prelude which later ties into the plot and story or set the tone for the rest of the film, this is so the veiwer knows what the film will be like in terms of action and speed. Occassionly the film will have a unrelated scene in it which will set the main character onto the main story.

Prelimary Exercise

December 14th, 2009 by jonathanmetcalfe

Evalutuion.

I think our prelimary exercise could of been better because the angle are to one side or not stable. The sound in ours is poor because we didnt not adjust the music manually or use the headset, we atempted to change the sound level while editting but it didnt work, for the main project we will ensure that the tripod is level and secure so that the shot isnt cadent unless its supposed to be. We will check the audio levels manually and not automatically so it isnt to loud like in the premiliary exercise.

Video Shot Log

December 2nd, 2009 by jonathanmetcalfe

A video shot log is a record of the shot. They are either stored on tape or disk. It is normal set out into a grid so it is easy to see. Its divide into Time Code , Take , Duration , Description , Audio and Comments. The timecode is how far along on the tape it is. The Take is just how many takes it has taken. The duration is how long the shot is. The description of the shot is how the director has descrided the shot. The audio is the sound or music in it such as ambient, diagetic, non diagetic and dialogue. The comments are at the end and for the director.

Analysis Of Preliminary Exercise

November 25th, 2009 by jonathanmetcalfe
  1. The opening shot for the Preliminary Exercise, has a normal angle and starts behind Mr Mannix. I think that the shot has too much head room because when he is closest their still is a lot of room between him and the ceiling.
  2. Next is the close up of his hand opening the door. This is good for the continuity because it shows him opening the door.
  3. The next shot of him is walking across the room, again I think there is too much head room because it doesnt just clip the top of his head. There is a pan shot of him walking across the room.
  4. Then it cuts to a short take of his hand picking up a chair, the shot after that has too mnuch head room and break the 180 degree rule because it is on the left hand side of Mr Mannix then shift to the left hand side of Mr Marshall. This does not help with continuity because it looks like they have switched places. It then switches back over the line.
  5. Then there is a shot reverse shot coupled with an over the head shot so it looks more realsitic when they are talking and handing over the package.

Further Editing

November 4th, 2009 by jonathanmetcalfe

The work space in adobe premiere consists of the info panel, this contains all the information of the selected item. The time line on the bottom of the screen shows you where all the audio, visual and images are put into ther final production. It is in a timeline so it is easier to move around and alter it. Project Panel is where the pieces of the project are stored and then put into the timeline. The items from the project panel have to be selected then placed into the time line. The tools panel on the right hand side contains all the tool that you will need to edit your piece. The tools may include the razor tool which will cut the clip or audio in two. The moniter panel is where the clips and audio can be see or heard, it will show the edit piece instead of the individual clips.

The tools of Premiere;

  • The Selections tool. The selection tool looks like a cursor and is used to select clips and audio aswell and use the basic functions.
  • Track Select Tool. The track select tool looks like an arrow in a dashed box. It allows you select all the clips/audio from a selected point.
  • Ripple Edit Tool. It allows you to move an edit point and it will make all the other follow it.
  • The Razor Tool. The Razor tool lets you cut the selected clips into two, if it was too long or not needed.
  • The Hand Tool. This can be used to to move clips and audio.
  • The Zoom Tool. It is used to zoom into the clips or audio so you can precise cut and move the clips into the right place.

Premeire

November 1st, 2009 by jonathanmetcalfe

Premeire is a editting program, on premiere you can add video, audio and pictures. It also lets you edit the footage and add effects onto your clips. Premeire is good because most people can use it after some training so it isnt just limited to professionals.

What premeire allows you to do;

  • Cut, copy and paste clips into any order.
  • Add effects such as zooming in and out, fade in and out.
  • You can add slide transitions.
  • Add non-daigetic images and sounds.
