Titles Analysis

Treasure

The titles of treasure are short and brief and simply use a fade in and a fade out. This makes the short film look very professional. The film shows a couple of seconds of video relative to the story then fades back to black and shows more titles. I think this is good because it allows an interesting part of the story to be told whilst the titles are running.

Sound

Monday, October 19th, 2009

There are 4 types of sound in film.
Dialogue which is spoken word from the actor or presenter. Dialogue is normally scripted or written down and rehearsed. Aysynchromus sound is where the see someone but someone else is talking, This is used when people are on the phone or in an over the shoulder shot.

The Ambient sounds is the background noise of the video e.g Birds singing. Usually the dialogue is recorded first then after they have done the dialogue they record a few minutes of ambient sound, then put them together.

Non-Diagetic sounds is music within the film world and it is the sound the characters in the film would hear. Non-Diagetic is used so the veiwer can experience the film from the characters point of veiw.

Diagetic sound is music or dialogue which is put over the original footage. For example if theres a car chase it would be the noise or music over it.

Tools of Recording Sound.

Sound can be recorded through a couple of methods, the easiest of these is too record it from the camera but it isnt great quality.

  • A boom is a mircophone on a pole which is held above the presenter or person talking this offers a better quality of sound.
  • The Recording gun is used to record sound from a distance. The camera can pick up sound from fairly far away so can be used to record at a distance.
  • Microphones which are pinned onto clothes are effective during interviews because they are close to the source of noise.

Camera Shot

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

There are many type of shot that a camera can achieve. The shot which are most used are the long shot, wide shot, close up and extreme close up. The wide shot is usaul the establishing shot which set the scene for the film, it is also used for shots of wide enviroments and scenes. The close up is used for seeing people faces, it is good because it shows the people emotion. The extreme close up gets you even closer than the normal close up, it shows the emotion and reactions better for dramatic scenes. A cutaway scene is when the current action stop and it shows you something else. In the cutaway scene the scene doesnt even have to be related to that going on in it. The two shot invovles two people standing within the frame and is usually for people who have a relationship. The point of veiw shows you whats going on from the point of veiw from the person for example if he was typing something on the keyboard then it would look at the keyboard and his or her hands typing. The weather shot is for when the director wants the veiwer to see the weather, he does it by showing a shot of mostly sky and the skyline. The over the shoulder shot is when it has one person in the background and in the foreground it has someone head or face so it give the illusion that it is over the shoulder.

Autumn Task One 2009

Monday, October 5th, 2009

The Lumeire brothers were the inventors of cinema and film. They first discovered it in 1895 and the first thing they filmed was workers leaving the factory and then a train entering a stations. The films only lasted for about 10 to 20 seconds but later got better and longer. They are recongized because they were the first ones to successfully make a film.

The Jazz singer presented a problem because the cinema’s didnt have sound and had to redo their cinema’s so the audience could hear. It was introduced in 1927 and was produced by Warner Brother, it was the first ‘Talkie’ in the cinemas. The Jazz singer was the first film to have built in sound this amazed the audiences because they could hear him even though he was not in the room with them.

Vertcial intergration is were the cinema will buy the film produced by the film company for money then the customer will pay money to see the film, so the money goes from the customer to the cinema to the film companies. Depending on how good the film is depends on how much the cinema will pay for it. If the film is a flop then the cinema wont pay much money for it and less the customer will pay whereas the better it is the more money will be paid.

The cinema industry came close to bankruptcy between 1952 and 1970 because of the invention of the tv. The people no long wanted to go out into city centre to see the cinema they preferred to stay in and watch TV. Most of the people in the city lived in the suburds and not in the city centres this didnt help the problem but they fixed it by moving the cinemas to the suburds.

The modern role of a film producer is to organize and support the making of the film. The producer will be involved with the casting, the production of the film and the editting. They control the money and decide the total amount of money that is to be spent on it. They get their money from the major film companies who see it as an investment.

The Video Camera

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

The video camera has a lot of different settings and functions. You can set the video camera manually or use the automatic functions. The manaul way means you can change the setting for your use for example you can zoom in or out, it is easy to use but is over use so the general advice is to keep it to a minimum. The focus setting on the camera makes the shot clear instead of blurry. One of the most important camera function is the white balance is give the shot true white because too much artificail white or too much sunlight can make the white seem either blue or orange.

Planning

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

Planning is essentail to the making if films or programs because without it the shows can be unorganized and sloppy. A film or program without a decent structure can waffle on about inrelative subjects. To plan your video shoot you need to consider the location , people in the video and what the film will contain. Professional film maker will employ location scout which will find the right location to your spefications and will hold open audience for their cast unless they wanted a certain actor. A well planned production shows because the results are usaully better.

Storyboards

Friday, September 18th, 2009

The storyboard is a series of pictures or scenes with dialogue next to it this allow the people to see the story before it has been filmed. Storyboards important to media because they allow the director to view the scenes before production so they can change or edit the scenes before they are made, this saves them money and time. Sticking to the storyboard makes sure that the story does not go off track to irrevelent subjects, without the storyboard its hard to make changes later on.
