Titles Analysis

Treasure

The titles of treasure are short and brief and simply use a fade in and a fade out. This makes the short film look very professional. The film shows a couple of seconds of video relative to the story then fades back to black and shows more titles. I think this is good because it allows an interesting part of the story to be told whilst the titles are running.

Photos of where we will be hoping to film at.

We have chosen these location because it suite the upper middle class lifestyle of the villian. We are hoping it reflect some realism into our short film. We have permission to film at this location and it is easily accessable.

Similairities

  • Dark Clothes, represent the aggressive dark nature of their minds.
  • Hateful face expression, showing they might have a motive.
  • Well vegetated area, we used a well vegetated area to show how desolate the area is.

Differences

  • Dark background whereas our character was filmed in daylight.
  • Character from the shining is more psychopathic and crazed, we wanted the character to act like he had a reason to chase and kill the victim.
  • Mood lighting behind the character in The Shining, We didnt film ours in the night with mood lighting because we thought it would compromise the qulaity of the film.

Preliminary Task compared to finished opening.

I think that the camerawork has improved than the original preliminary task because in the preliminary task we use many of the same types of shot which were at a candented angle. I think this was because we didnt set the camera tripod up properly but during the film opening we ensure that the tripods legs were at the right length and that the camera was level. During the preliminary task we were unaware of the camera conventions such as the 180 degree rule, the 180 degree rule makes sure that the screen doesnt look wrong, for example it can make the person walking away look like their walking towards them. The editting in the our first preliminary task was ok but the volume was too loud. In the opening we editted it so the sound was under control .

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Title

The title of our film is doesnt challenge the conventions, because it is an standard issue. The film was a short introduction then the title come on. There is a a fade in and a fade out.

Setting and location

The setting of our film is an farm and fields. There also is a dirt track passed the fields. This setting doesnt challenge the normal film because the setting of its a classic setting for this type of genre.

Costumes and props

We didnt use that many props or costume in our film opening because we didnt think it was necessary. The props we did use invovled a rusty chain and a old chair. The chain was used as a potentail weapon which gets discarded, the chain challenges the conventions of a real media production because a chain isnt  a clean cut weapon. The chair is an ordinary chair but its old and falling apart.

Camerawork and editting

We used slow motion for the scene with the chains this was because it made the entire scene a bit eirier and scary. We uses a handheld shot which we thought was approtiate from the suspect point of view. We also use a variety of shot including long, medium, short to stay with conventions from other real media products.

Title font and style

We chose the title font and style based on the video we had already captured. The font is a dark red which reflects the horror genre we are trying to achieve.

Set up to the main story

The intro of our film sets up the story of the entire film well because it shows the horror and violence. Also the ending is unclear about what happens to the man.

Genre and how the opening suggests it

The genre of our film is suggested by the music and the setting of the film, The music we chose is intended to be scary and haunting. The setting we chose is run down and old. What happens in opening reflects what happens in the rest of the film.

How characters are introduced

The characters in the opening are introduced, firstly by simple walking into the shot as our main character. The seconds person is introduced by a shot of him from behind holding a chain as a weapon. I think that introducing the seconded person has a stronger effect because it is a more interesting camera shot.

Specail Effects

The only real specail effect we used in the opening was the slow motion for the chains, we did this to make the mood more tense.
