Sound
Microphones are a common piece of equipment used in film production to recod film. There are four different thing to consider when chosing mics, which are directionality when you dicide were the sound is comeing from. IT is also best to use a less directional mic when you are close to the actor speaking. Frequency response is messured in hertzs and is use to work out how the mic will respond to different frequencies. The next is impedance the lower it is the better, low impedance is less then 600 hertz. The last is handiling noise. A mic uses vibrations and turns then into electrical sound weves to make sound. If the mic has no protection you will get unessasery vidrations that will make unwanted sound. A foam padding put over the mic cuts out any unwanted sounds such as the wind. The placemebt of the mic is a very inportant factor. Getting the mic the right distance is the most important thing. It is best to get the rght balance between sound of the actorand the ambint noise, this will vary depending on the situiation. Tere are four different ways of mounting mic. Mic stands are the most obvious but there are three different types to use the straight stand, boom stand and the table top stand. The next are clamps which are use to put another mic on the same stand. Thires are good as they use up little space. Then there are clothing clips which are small mic that can be clamped to clothing or hidden in hair. Last there are head sets which have there own little mic inside then. Headsets are best used in stage porformances. Looking after your mics inportant so they function well. You must never blow into the mic as thay are made to respond to sound waves not wind, also you must never tap the hand set as it will damage the speakers.
