Pulp Fiction 4 minute test

The director Quintin Tarontino uses an exterme close up on Mias face to show here nose bleeding and the cocaina coming from her nose to exagerate how bad she is. It also makes you think if she is dead or alive. This secne in the film is very repolsive to the audeince and sets the repition for close ups being vile or of putting.

Tarontino uses an over the shoulder shot to show the arrivel of Vincent and Mia in the car. The camra is looking over Lances shoulder as the car drives into the frame and back out the other side, then you hear it crash somewhere but you never find out what into. This uses diagetic sound in the film. Then Lance runs out to see what happens. The camra follows him and it is hand held to give the feel that you are there in the action. This hole sequence is made like a sitcome like the one Lance is wacthing at the begining of the sence when he is sat down eating.

Sound

October 12th, 2009 by jamesmorris1

Microphones are a common piece of equipment used in film production to recod film. There are four different thing to consider when chosing mics, which are directionality when you dicide were the sound is comeing from. IT is also best to use a less directional mic when you are close to the actor speaking. Frequency response is messured in  hertzs and is use to work out how the mic will respond to different frequencies. The next is impedance the lower it is the better, low impedance is less then 600 hertz. The last is handiling noise. A mic uses vibrations and turns then into electrical sound weves to make sound. If the mic has no protection you will get unessasery vidrations that will make unwanted sound. A foam padding put over the mic cuts out any unwanted sounds such as the wind. The placemebt of the mic is a very inportant factor. Getting the mic the right distance is the most important thing. It is best to get the rght balance between sound of the actorand the ambint noise, this will vary depending on the situiation. Tere are four different ways of mounting mic. Mic stands are the most obvious but there are three different types to use the straight stand, boom stand and the table top stand. The next are clamps which are use to put another mic on the same stand. Thires are good as they use up little space. Then there are clothing clips which are small mic that can be clamped to clothing or hidden in hair. Last there are head sets which have there own little mic inside then. Headsets are best used in stage porformances. Looking after your mics inportant so they function well. You must never blow into the mic as thay are made to respond to sound waves not wind, also you must never tap the hand set as it will damage the speakers.

Autumn Task One 2009

1) The main contribution of the lumiere brothers to the cinema industry was that they invented the first film ever to be shown. The film was in silence and it was of a trian entering a station. The audaince actauly thought there was a train coming towards them and they were startled.

2) The succes of the of ‘The Jazz Singer` in 1927 was a long time problem for hollywood in the 1930’s as it was the first full length film to be made. The film also inclueded dialogue and at the time it was a sensation as it was the first film to do so. Hollywood was forced to make films with dialogue since The Jazz Singer was the only film to do this. This ment that holly wood was losing lots of biseness.

3) All hollywood studios were based around vertical intregration. This persisted of three stages. The production of the film in which it is made. Then the distubution of the film were it was shown to the critics and then if it past that the exibition of the film when it was pressented to the public.

4) Between 1952 and 1970 the cinema  industry become bankruptcy due to the production of tv. The public stopped going to the cinema as it was easier to veiw the tv as it was in the house instead of having to drive all the way to the cinema.

Story board

October 7th, 2009 by jamesmorris1

Story boarding helps to put your ideas for a movie to make a film. For each frame you add what type of camra angle you will use, dialoge and what is happening. Without planning a story board your film will not meet its full potaital.

Camra shots

October 7th, 2009 by jamesmorris1

Exreme wide shots are use to set the scene of the movie. They are call establishing shoots. In very wide shots the actor is they but not very visable. The shot is still use the establish where it is. In a wide shot the subject is in full screen, balance is use to get the same distance of background between the haed and the feet. Mid shots show the actor in more detail but still gives you of an idea of the actor. A medeium close up is between a md and a cu.Paticular features of the actor takes up the hole frame of a close up but there is always head room for the actor. Extreme close ups show the actor in great detail and focous on one part of he or she. Cut away shows a frame of something away from the action while it has still happening. A cut in shows part of the actor in detail. A two shot fits two actor into a shot with ease, it is similar to a mid shot. An over the shoulder shot shows the camra view over an actors shoulder, it can be use to show an actors reaction while the other person talks to him. A point of veiw shot shows what the actor is looking at like in first person. Weather shot show how the weather is behaving, they usely subject the sky.
