Opening Titles Analysis – Coraline

Title: Coraline

Starring: Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders

Begins with the Production Titles, Focus features presents, A Laika production, In Association with Pandemonium

Then It continues with the Title of the Film ‘Coraline’, The writing style gives the illusion of stitched writing and a button is used to replace the ‘O’ this is coherent with the storyline of the film. This then fades to black and the main Titles begin introducing the actors who starred in ‘Coraline’:

  • Dakota Fanning
  • Teri Hatcher
  • Jennifer Saunders
  • Dawn French
  • Ian Mcshane

This is followed by a shot of a hand stitched doll floating threw an open window, there is something very sinister about this shot. After this the Titles again continue:

Throughout the Opening sequence the sequence of the process of making the doll is consistent. This is followed through in the Storyline of the film and creates the macabre atmosphere for the audience.
