Evaluation – Task 4

April 29th, 2010 by callumbrown2072

Our main target audience for our film is aimed at students ranging from 15-22, more aimed at the higher end of students at college and university, I chose this audience because the parental guidence is a 15. Also because a younger generation has more taste in horror films, getting a kick out of fear and suspence. Our audience will have a taste in a modern world, listening to popular music in the top 40 charts and shop at places such as topman or topshop etc. Most teenagers up to young adults will watch TV, programmes such as reality tv shows like big brother, comedy and horrors which give them a distraction from everyday life. We took into concideration the use of the gratifications theory, making our film for a certain audience to please them through a horror film by building suspence and fear, giving the audience their fix of an adrenalin rush.

Evaluation- Activity 2

April 23rd, 2010 by callumbrown2072

I decided to compare our villain in our film to  the villain in haloween, Mike Myers (pictured above) callum played the beast like villain in our film who is similar to the character in haloween. Both these characters are similar in appearance, both have a tall, built stature and look aggressive. The costumes they both wear are also similar, black dark clothing with a big hood up the only diiference is the character from haloween wears a mask to cover his identity, we tried keeping callums indentity unknown also but with out a mask but just  with a big hood. they both play a similar role in both films, picking of  victims one by one and killing them. They both have an intimidating presense in thier roles in the films.

Evaluation- Activity 6

April 23rd, 2010 by callumbrown2072

The top picture is a picture of me using the camera. The hedphones on the camera allowed me to hear the sound from the dialogue that we used in our film, it also let me kinow if it was too loud or too quiet. The image below that is a picture of me on the computer that we used to edit our film. The programme we used to edit our film was Premiere.

Evaluation- Activity 1

April 23rd, 2010 by callumbrown2072

The first picture is our Establashing shot for our media project. This shot just shows you what is outside where we filmed and the surroundings of the place. In the last picture that we used there is one character holding a metal pole which we used as a prop, this was done to add tension in the scene and make it scarier. We used a different variety of shots whilst filming, some of the shots include, two shot, over the shoulder shot, pan shot and a shot reverse shot. The movie that we filmed was done in an abandonned building as we were filming a horror and thought that this would be the best place to make it scary and build up suspense. The opening of our movie sugests that the genre is a horror because the music builds up a suspense to make the audience think that something is going to happen and the building that two characters go into makes it seem that the movie is a horror. The characters in our film are introduced by fade in and fade outs throught the opening. We only used one special effect in our fim, this is when the character walks through the gap on the top floor when you dont expect anyone, what we did here was change the lighting as that scene was far to dark so we used the tools on Premiere to make the scene brighter.

Risk Assesment

March 24th, 2010 by callumbrown2072

The location in which we chose to film was in Utility, an abandoned building on the outskirts of Northallerton. The building is very old and if care is not taken it can be slightly dangerous. The building is not protected by fencing or gates so by entering we were not commiting trespass. This was overviewed by various subject teachers around the college to avoid any laws being broken. As the building is very old there are some dangers that are made obvious. However the building is still very sturdy and the majority of the interior has been removed, therefore leaving only the strong base of the building. When filming we were very cautious on foot as rubble created an unlevel surface inside some areas of the buildings.

Target Audience

March 19th, 2010 by callumbrown2072

The target audience for our movie will be people who are intersted and enjoy horror movies. Anyone who enjoys horror movies can watch it. We will be focusing on older people watching our movie as it is a horror and may not appeal to the younger generation. The age group that we are targeting with this movie are 18+ as we think that they will have a better understanding of the genre of the movie and enjoy it alot more.

Preliminary Exercise of video

December 14th, 2009 by callumbrown2072

Analysis of Premilimenary Exercise

December 2nd, 2009 by callumbrown2072

all the shots are used in the short video that Mr Manix and Mr Marshall made. There is the close up of Mr Manix opening a door. There is a shot of Mr Manix crossing a room. There is short dialogue used when Mr Manix and Mr Marshall speak. There is also a shot of Mr Manix passing over a package. A shot reverse shot is used and the 180 degree rule is used.

However there are a few bad shots in the video. There is a shot when both of them are sat down and there is far too much head room at the top.

Preliminary Exercise

November 12th, 2009 by callumbrown2072

Continuity Task

Filming and Edditing, Character opening a door then crossing a room, character sits down in a chair opposite another character, they exchange a couple of lines of dialogue, exercise must demonstrate-match on action shot/shot-reverse shot and the 180 degree rule.

Microphones

November 10th, 2009 by callumbrown2072

It is crucial that when you are making your movie that you choose the right microphone to use so you can get the best sound.

Microphones are used in every day life. They are used in such things as telephones, computers and recording studios. However not many people realise when they are talking on the telephone that it is the microphone inside it that allows them to speak clearly to the person at the other end.

Adobe Premiere ( task 10)

November 4th, 2009 by callumbrown2072

Adobe premiere allows you to edit the filming that you have done.

The workspace is divided into 5 pannels

1 The project panal – this is where all the elements that make up the video are stored.

2 The monitor panal – this is where you are able to view the video.

3 The timeline panal - this is where you put your filming in the order you want it.

4 The tools panal - this is where you are able to use various editing tools to edit the timeline.

Adobe Premiere Pro

November 4th, 2009 by callumbrown2072

Adobe premier pro is a software that is used by both proffessionals and ameaturs. It is a video editting software package. Premiere is a very good software that is capable of producing broadcast-quality and high-definition video.

The things premiere is able to do are

> Import video, audio and graphics in a wide variety of formats.

> Edit, manipulate and arrange these elements in a visual timeline.

> Add effects, filters, titles, etc.

> Export your edited video in a variety of formats, including video tape recordings, DV, DVD, and common Internet video formats.

Editing

November 4th, 2009 by callumbrown2072

Editing is where you can change the video you have taken on the camera and edit it into something different.

Before you start editing you will need to know what and how you are wanting to edit the video. You must remove any footage that you dont want to have in the video. Choose only the best filming that you have done. When editing you tend to film far too much footge than you need. When you are editing the footage you are able to add music, graphics and effects.

Autumn Task One

October 7th, 2009 by callumbrown2072

Lumiere Brothers

The lumiere brothers were the inventors of the cinema. They invented the cinema in France in 1985. The brothers amazed people with making movies like trains coming into stations which people were astonished by.

The Jazz Singer

the Jazz Singer was the first ever proper movie. It lasted longer than 10 minutes and had a story to it. The reason that the movie caused long term problems in the 1930’s was because of two main reasons. The lighting in the room was causing shadows to appear on the screen which was messing up the films. Another reason that the Jazz Singer caused problems for Hollywood in the 1930’s was that the cameras made alot of noise whilst filming so directors had to put the cameras in sound proof booths.

Vertical Integration

Vertical integration describes the different styles of how the managing director controls the film. Verticaly integrated companies usually have a common owner and are usually united through a hierarchy. Normally a different user of the hierarchy focuses on a different product. For example, one hierarchy will focus on backward vertical integration, another will focus on forward vertical integration and one more will focus on balanced vertical integration.

Cinema Industry

The main reason that the cinema came to a close in 1952 and 1970 was that nobody was going to the cinema anymore. The television had been invented so people could watch television in their own homes. The minor causes that nobody was going to the cinema was that nobody was going so the cinema industry wasnt making any money.

Modern Film Producer

A film producer is also known as a movie producer is the person that creates the scenes for the movie. The producer is involved throughout the entire procedure of making the movie. Throughout the first half of the 20th century the film producer use to have ultimate control on a film project. The producer is in charge of the costs for the movie and the edditing of the movie. Another reason was the invention of the motor car, epople who bought a motor car had to have the money to run it so they didnt have the time or money to spend at the cinema.

Planning

September 30th, 2009 by callumbrown2072

When you are starting your planning you need to know what the purpose of your video is and who the target audience is. Planning your movie helps you save a great deal of time and effort. If you go out to film your movie then you will waste more time in deciding what to do for your movie.

cameras

September 30th, 2009 by callumbrown2072

All modern cameras can do nearly anything because of the use of technology. Most modern cameras are automatic so all you need to do is point the camera at what you want to film and press record. However if you want to get the best result from, your filming, professionals use the camera manualy to get better results. The reasons that professionals do this is because all though the automatic camera will work perfectly well and give you a good picture, there will be some things it cant cope witjh. Eg bad lighting conditions.

Story Boarding

September 18th, 2009 by callumbrown2072

It is important to use a storyboard. Storyboard will help you keep an order when you are doing a complicated project. Without using a storyboard on a complicated project it could get very confusing and will leave you making unneccessary changes that could have benn avoided with the use of a storyboard. A clear, well structured storyboard will help keeping an order to the project you are working on.
